August 2024 · 3 minute read

These days, Cassie Ventura keeps her fans updated by way of cute family pics on her Instagram. The star recently gave birth to another baby girl during the pandemic. Cassie hasn't released another album since her debut album in 2006. In 2019, it was announced that the singer was working on new content, although it is unknown whether the star will be putting out a new album any time soon.

Ventura was once a promising newcomer on the music scene, surprisingly her career never really took off. For a while, her high-profile relationship with P. Diddy took center stage, overshadowing her music career. After their split, Cassie made her way back to the studio, hopefully working on her much anticipated second album.

Her Career Didn't Take Off

Once in a while, an artist breaks onto the scene with a hit song and the potential to make it big. Cassie's 2006 debut single, "Me & U" peaked at number three on the Billboard hot 100 for four weeks. Her self-titled album debuted at number four on the Billboard 200 and sold 321,000 copies in the U.S.

With her soft catchy tunes and unique rhythm, Ventura was poised to cement her place as one of the biggest artists in the industry, but her career never really took off. Since the release of her first album, Cassie is yet to put out a second one.

The Guardian reported, "But in the six years since, Cassie Ventura's career has remained in limbo. Last month her catchy, squelchy track with Nicki Minaj, The Boys, showed signs of thrusting Cassie into the spotlight again, her understated look traded in for a punky, abrasive new image."

She's released several singles and a mixtape over the years, reminding fans that she's not done yet.

"But the song made ripples, not a waterfall, and was unofficially demoted to "buzz track" status rather than an official single release. It's part of a familiar pattern. Since Me & U, it's been a series of false starts and canned projects."

She Is Still Making Music

Many people remember Cassie by her decade-long relationship with hip-hop mogul P Diddy and not her music, owing to the fact she hasn't been consistent with her career. Although she tried her hand at acting, Ventura hasn't given up on music.

About a year after her split from P. Diddy, it was reported that Cassie was headed back to the studio. She released a couple of singles under her record label, Ventura Music.

Cassie told Interview Magazine, "It takes people a little longer to get into you when you have a distinct sound—especially if you’re not force-feeding singles to pop radio. I try to be as much of an enigma as I can… because I want to be present and have people know what my message is, but then again, I want that mystery."

The breaks she takes from music further adds to her fans' fascination with the singer, she is still as relevant as she was when she first burst on the scene.

"There’s a sensuality in the mystery that I think drives people to listen to my music. Whether it’s to just ride to, dance to, whatever…"
