Ryan Gosling Booed at Cannes For Directorial Debut Lost River

At least he's still got his good looks! Ryan Gosling's directorial debut didn't exactly go well at the Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday, May 20. The A-Lister's film Lost River was actually booed by theater-goers.

"Boos reportedly drowned out the applause," according to Entertainment Weekly.

Several critics quickly took to Twitter to bash the effort, many blasting Gosling for poorly imitating acclaimed, darkly quirky director David Lynch.

"If a $200 haircut and $900 shades were given lots of money to defecate on Detroit, the result would be Ryan Gosling's directing debut," Grantland writer Wesley Morris tweeted.

The actor was also memorably booed at the 2013 Cannes Festival when his film Only God Forgives premiered.

"Anyone who loved Only God Forgives should love Ryan Gosling's LOST RIVER. Swap Bangkok for swampy America and it's basically the same film," Time Out editor Dave Calhoun tweeted.

Gosling is not the only celeb to get booed at this year's festival; in fact, he's not even the only Ryan. Ryan Reynolds' film The Captive also received sub-par reviews, and Blake Lively's man skipped his own after party on May 16 after getting booed during the screening. The Cannes Festival is notorious for featuring emotional responses from audiences, from booing to cheers.
