Roomba pictures leaked were shared on social media sites, including private groups on Facebook

According to MIT Technology Review, pictures of a woman using the restroom with her shorts pushed down to her thighs were taken by a robot vacuum and posted in secret Facebook and Discord groups.

This month, information about iRobot’s new Roomba J7 series robot vacuum’s stunning data leak surfaced.

IRobot, a manufacturer of robotic vacuums, acknowledged that some of the sensitive photographs that were captured by these machines were posted online.

Roomba said that the pictures, which included one of a woman using the restroom, were only taken by test units.

The self-driving vacuums were being tested by paid data collectors and staff, according to iRobot, the company that develops Roomba, to improve its machine learning skills.

The revelation, which comes as Amazon works to finalize a $1.7 billion deal to acquire iRobot, raises concerns about how tech companies utilize and safeguard the data they collect.

The pictures showed a woman sitting on the toilet in a purple blouse with her face pixelated and a youngster lying on his tummy staring at the camera recording him.

Even though the photographs were not taken by Roomba users, as part of corporate privacy rules, consumers frequently agree to have their data tracked once they purchase “smart” gadgets.

An iRobot spokesman named James Bussmann confirmed the photo leak.

According to sources, the test robots had hardware and software upgrades that were never sold to consumers.
