As per the Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened at State Route 38 near the south end of Brown Road in Newark Valley at around 11:23 a.m.
The road was blocked in both directions along Route 38 until a complete investigation was completed.
After an investigation, the Tioga Country Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that three pedestrians died in a Newark Valley fatal car accident. The fourth pedestrian, a 27-year-old woman, was immediately shifted to a Syracuse hospital from the scene and remains in life-and-death condition.
According to police, the driver was an 18-year-old teenager driving a black 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe moving southbound on State Rt. 68 when he struck the four persons who were walking on the side of the road.
The three deceased pedestrians were identified as 25-year-old Kurtis Acker, 52-year-old Doreen Wood, and 66-year-old John Stephens, and all belonged to Newark Valley.
Tioga County Sherrif also informed that the 18-year-old teenage driver stayed on the spot and cooperated with police in the investigation.
