Craig Morgan‘s son Jerry Greer — who died Sunday, July 10, at age 19 in a boating accident — was remembered in a touching obituary.
“Jerry was the smile that instantly lit up any room. He was a superstar without even trying. He was a natural athlete that accomplished what most spend a lifetime attempting to achieve. He was a devoted and dedicated son, brother and friend. He loved his God, his family, his friends and his country more than anything. His passions were football, soccer and the outdoors,” Greer’s obituary reads, via The Tennessean. “He will be greatly missed by everyone who came in contact with him. He will be forever in our thoughts, in our words and in our hearts.”
Memorial services have been scheduled for Greer this upcoming weekend in his home state of Tennessee. Greer’s loved ones will gather this Friday and Saturday to pay tribute to the late country music scion.
According to The Tennessean, arrangements have been made for a visitation on Friday, July 15, at Walnut Street Church of Christ in Dickson. Greer’s funeral will take place at Covenant Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 16.
As previously reported, Greer was found dead Monday, July 11, a rep for his famous dad confirmed in a press release.
According to the release, the Humphreys County Sheriff’s Department in Tennessee recovered the teen’s body on Monday night after a search of Kentucky Lake that began on Sunday following his accident. The search began at about 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon. The Associated Press reports that nearly 50 boats joined the efforts to locate Greer.
According to Rob Edwards, chief deputy for the Humphreys County Sheriff’s Office, Greer and another man — who were both wearing life jackets — were riding an inner tube pulled by a boat when they were thrown from their raft, and Greer never resurfaced.
Morgan, 51, and his wife, Karen, are asking for privacy as they mourn the loss of their son. “The family is grateful for everyone’s support and prayers and requests privacy during this difficult time,” a rep for the couple told Fox News in a statement.
Greer, who graduated this year from Dickson County High School and was planning on playing football for Marshall University in the fall, is survived by his parents, sister Aly Beaird and brothers Kyle and Wyatt.
